Meet Your Tutor: Passionate. Prepared. Purposeful.

Hi, I’m Naya — a passionate math educator, woman of faith, and the founder of JLB Tutoring: Journey of Learning & Becoming. I created this space with one goal in mind: to help students in grades 6–12 not only understand math, but believe in themselves along the way. Here, tutoring goes beyond worksheets and formulas, it’s about transformation, confidence, and purpose.

My Journey:

I’ve always loved math, not just for the numbers, but for the clarity and confidence that come when everything finally clicks. I hold a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Finance and a Master’s in Math Education, but my true foundation was built through years of one-on-one work with students who simply needed someone to break it down, believe in them, and build them up.

Before launching JLB Tutoring, I spent six years in financial services, helping adults navigate investments and retirement planning. That experience confirmed what I’d always known: my heart is in helping others understand the language of math and finance — two areas I’m deeply passionate about and patient in teaching.

At JLB Tutoring, I bring that same clarity, care, and consistency to students in grades 6–12, guiding them step-by-step through foundational math concepts while encouraging confidence, discipline, and growth, both academically and personally.

Why I Started JLB Tutoring:

After tutoring students from a wide range of backgrounds, some struggling with basics like fractions to others feeling lost in Algebra, I realized most students don’t lack intelligence. They lack consistent support, a clear explanation, and someone who sees them. That’s where I come in.

JLB stands for Journey of Learning & Becoming because math success isn’t just about getting the right answer. It’s about the process: building discipline, learning from mistakes, and growing in confidence. I wanted to create a tutoring service that was deeply educational and deeply encouraging.

How I Teach:

My approach is:

  • Foundations-first: I start where your child is, not where the curriculum expects them to be. We fill in gaps and build upward.

  • Faith-led: While I don’t preach in sessions, I’m led by biblical principles like Romans 12:2 — “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”

  • Student-centered: Every session is tailored to your child’s learning style, pace, and needs.

Whether your student is anxious about math or just needs a push to reach the next level, I meet them with patience, structure, and steady encouragement.

My Heart for Students:

I see every student as uniquely gifted and full of potential. At JLB Tutoring, they’re not just getting help, they’re being built up. I want them to walk away not only understanding math, but understanding that they are capable, valuable, and on a meaningful journey.
